How To Draw In The Jojo Style
I made this in response to @Unshiza 'south mail about asking how to draw in Araki'due south way
One notation I can make off the peak of my head that is more of a general trick to improving fine art but is also super important for drawing in Araki's way is ✨planes✨ especially planes of the face, when you learn realism it is similar ane of the kickoff things you lot larn
Planes are really good to know because they can help with shading, if you detect the manner the faces are are colored and lit in basically whatever cartoon by Araki (and merely whatever pro fine art in full general) they utilize the planes to assist with shading. I retrieve Araki has I judge more than "geometric" or more "prominent" use of the planes, especially in his older art, where they're much more prominent. In bodily realism they kind of blend into each other, Only THEY ARE Always There
And I mean actually everything can be broken down into planes only we'll just start with the face for simplicity
Araki's style is heavily based in realism, especially with how it looks in Jojolion and SBR, but regardless you should ABSOLUTELY memorize the planes of the face, an easy way to exercise it when y'all draw anything just apply it as reference for placing features and shading so it'due south less slow. you lot should just learn realism in general because it is really really helpful for cartoon EVERYTHINg... merely kinda slow.... Then cartoon jojo characters as y'all learn might make it less so
If you want the specifics of how Araki does specific styles (since the art of jojo has inverse overtime) I recommend y'all follow what @Elephant2009, nOnOnOnO said in the original post about drawing the characters over and again because that'll definitely become you a better hang of the different styles
NOW WHEN IT COMES TO POSES-
First off- everybody who likes jojo should read Araki's how to make manga book, information technology is super insightful and I read it religiously, but in at that place he goes into a ton of his philosophies soo information technology is REALLY WORTH READING
Anyway- in that volume mentions how when information technology comes to drawing jojo poses is to beginning yaknow learn beefcake and due figure drawing (it is super helpful trust meeee)
He essentially says that the curve of the cardinal guideline, and the placement of the elbows and waist are the virtually important things when cartoon the poses. And y'all just twist em effectually and exaggerate shapes and whatever
You can see that here pretty well, curved center guideline, angled hip placement, joints at an angle, and interesting elbow placement.
Oh yeah so at that place's foreshortening.... that is a whole other ball game...
There is so much more than to be said about how yous draw in Araki'south style but I've written plenty and I would say that is just a basic analysis of how it kind of works
I hope that helps anyone interested in starting to describe in the style, if you take more questions I might take the answer, I believe in all of y'all
Cheers for coming to my Ted Talk
EDIT- don't forget to use reference!! it is actually really helpful, who would have idea! If you lot want expert reference for jojo like poses but look through vogue magazines similar Araki :)
